Payment Gateway Integration: Direct Post Integration
As a merchant using the Instabill Payment Gateway, you have the option to integrate your website and applications using one of two methods-- Secure Processing Form or Direct Post. The Direct Post method of payment gateway integration allows you to maintain your customers' checkout experience--without having to build the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) infrastructure.
Here's how Direct Post integration works:
- Your customer views their shopping cart on your server and clicks on the Checkout button.
- While still on your server, you gather the credit card information through your payments page.
- When your customer clicks the Submit Order button, their information directly posts to the Instabill Payment Gateway--their sensitive payment information never touches your server.
- We send out the payment information to either approve or deny the transaction, and then send you a quick XML-based response.
- Your server displays the results page to your customer.
Both methods come already integrated into the Instabill Payment Gateway. All you have to do is decide how you want your applications to communicate with the payment gateway.
API: Application Programming Interface
Application Programming Interface (or API) is a description of the way one piece of software asks another program to perform a service. It is a type of common language spoken between two programs so they can communicate with each other. At Instabill, we have two types of API--one for Direct Post integration and one for Secure Processing Form integration. Because Direct Post and Secure Processing Form are two different types of integration, they each require their own API.
